The first 2011 cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in U.S. horses have been reported. Two horses in the panhandle region of Florida and one horse in upstate New York are the first victims of mosquito-borne virus (arbovirus), which can also infect humans. Horses cannot spread the disease; infected mosquitoes must directly infect the victim, whether human or horse.
